Real Men Don’t Rape…

On this beautiful morning, when I turned on the TV for some morning news, I was rather deeply saddened and ashamed. A foreign woman was raped in New Delhi, our capital, the country’s pride and honor. Shameful! Shocking! Disgusting! Then it was an article in The Indian Express about ‘Rapes in War’, it left me shattered. I wonder, nowadays, whenever I tune into any news channel, I hear news of rapes (sadly it comes from different parts of the country) and miserably most of them are Gang rapes and extremely brutal. Most of the times, the brutality has grown up to killing the raped women, hanging them from trees or putting knifes in their private parts. How inhuman! Some of the victims are found abandoned on the road sides; some are left to die at some remote places, all beaten up and severally injured. What the hell is going on in our country??? Have we lost our values? Have we left behind our culture which always respected women? Sorry to say but I am ashamed to live in a country where Gang rapes are more popular than Gangnum. SAD!!!

Of all crimes committed against a woman, rape is the one that leaves the victim feeling the most dishonored. The rape victims feel like their life has torn apart. And this feeling will be to their mind again and again, like the crime is occurring repetitively. Rape is the most disgraceful crime committed against a person. People feel bad if their belongings are used without their approval. How that person would be feeling whose body is used without their consent?

Sometimes, I feel really disappointed about such callous acts but more for the senseless comments people pass on to defend these rapists. Some ridiculous bastards tell that, seductive dressing of new age women has been a notable reason behind increased numbers of rapes. Pity you! A four year old girl being raped never seduces anybody. A sixty year old widow being raped doesn’t wear miniskirts. Every woman passing by you is not a bitch. Every woman working late or travelling alone in the night is not a slut. She must be working because she has some responsibilities; she may be out in the night because it might be the need of the hour. She must be somebody’s adored daughter; someone’s caring mother or someone’s loving wife. So, please let them roam safely, let them work fearlessly, let them live equally with us. Life without freedom is life a body without heart. Give power to their wings. Don’t tell them how to dress, decide not to rape. Let the women experience the better sides of men.

I accept rapes aren’t new to the mankind. Women body has always been a temptation for men. But, may be today men have forgotten the art of exciting women, the art of loving women. Real men don’t misbehave. Real men respect women, they care for their women. Real men know how to win a woman’s heart. Real men make their women comfortable and make them feel safe. Real men don’t rape. Real men don’t buy girls. And to be a real man, one needs Chivalry, Courage, and Bravery. The men of quality respect Women’s Equality....

I had read this beautiful quote somewhere –
“Being Male is a matter of Birth.
Being Man is a matter of Age.
But, Being a Gentleman is a matter of Choice.”
This is the simplest choice in the lifetime, but unfortunately few of our male friends fail to make. A few men commit violence against women but, all men pay price. I know there are thousands across the world writing against the rapes, asking to stop violence against women and I know these few lines may not change the world. I just want to do my bit. Dr. Alan Berkowitz, a well-known researcher in the field of Social sciences, asserts in his research that 80% of college age men are uncomfortable when women are belittled or mistreated. They do not express their discomfort because they believe they are the only ones who are uncomfortable. He may be right. I too had felt same in the past. But, not now! Now, I want to take a stand and I want you all to take the stand.

If someone is harassing a woman on the street, I just don’t want to be an insensitive spectator. I want to take stand against it. I want to be a "strong man," who stands up for what he believes in, gives back to his community, and treats others especially women with respect.

I believe, only MEN CAN STOP THE RAPES.

Let’s all team up coz REAL MEN DON’T RAPE!!!
